Welcome to PCC.

You will find information about our program and activities as well as our application process. Our mission at Philopateer is to provide an educational environment that integrates academics and Bible study. We invite you to visit the different sections of the site to learn more about our school and what it can offer your child.

CHRISTIAN ENVIRONMENT

At Philopateer, Christian education is the thread that weaves together all other aspects of the curriculum. Bible Study, Prayer, and Chapel Devotions combine to create a welcoming, caring community.

SMALL CLASS SIZE EQUALS ENHANCED CURRICULUM

Our low pupil-teacher ratio ensures that students are provided with the individual attention necessary to meet their learning needs. There is a maximum of 18 students per class. The Ontario curriculum expectations are all met with enrichment for the students.

STRONG LITERACY & NUMERACY PROGRAM

A strong early literacy program begins with our pre-JK students resulting in many of our SK students reading before they enter grade one. A later literacy program follows up in the higher grades strengthening and enhancing all language skills, both oral and written. Students are also exposed to numeracy at an early age, including all strands of mathematics: number sense and numeration, geometry, measurement, patterning and algebra, and data management and probability. The very important skills of problem-solving and communication are also stressed.

COMPUTER LAB

At Philopateer we understand the important role technology plays in the world today. Our dual aim is to teach computer literacy to our students as well as to promote the use of the computer as a tool to enhance learning in all subject areas. We incorporate technology in the class at all levels.

ON-GOING HOME & SCHOOL COMMUNICATION

Parents are kept well-informed about their children’s progress in a number of ways. For the elementary division, three formal report cards are accompanied by two parent-teacher conferences. As for the secondary division, there are two mid-term report cards as well as two final report cards at the end of each semester. Teachers communicate regularly with parents on an ongoing basis. Each student also receives an agenda that is used as a daily homework recorder and another form of communication between the school and home. Teachers also practice ongoing phone calls with parents. On a weekly basis, the WAAG “Week at a Glance” is sent home for grade pre-Jk to grade 8 students and it provides both students and parents with an overview of the week’s assignments and activities.

EXTRA! EXTRA! EXTRA!

Curricular and extra-curricular opportunities offered at Philopateer help to round out the educational experience of the students. These include swimming, skating, intramural sports, chess and music programs which are carried out as part of the school day. After-school clubs such as chess, science and crafts further enhance the experience.
